What is the Anointing of the sick? / Czym jest sakrament namaszczenia chorych?
The Church believes and confesses that among the seven sacraments there is one dedicated to the strengthening of those who are sick – the Anointing of the Sick. It is one of the sacraments of Christian healing. It is a sacrament in which the seriously ill receives an anointing with St. and the priest’s prayer, special favors, relief from suffering, and sometimes health. This sacrament also has the power to take away sins.
Kościół wierzy i wyznaje, że wśród siedmiu sakramentów istnieje jeden specjalnie przeznaczony do umocnienia osób dotkniętych chorobą – sakrament namaszczenia chorych. Jest on jednym z sakramentów uzdrowienia chrześcijańskiego. Jest to sakrament, w którym ciężko chory otrzymuje przez namaszczenie olejem św. i modlitwę kapłana szczególne łaski, ulgę w cierpieniu, a niekiedy przywrócenie zdrowia. Sakrament ten ma również moc gładzenia grzechów.
Who and when can receive the anointing of the sick? Kto i kiedy może przyjąć namaszczenie chorych?
The Anointing of the Sick is not a sacrament intended only for those who are in ultimate danger of losing their lives. The appropriate time to receive this sacrament is when the faithful are in danger as a result of sickness or old age. This sacrament may be administered again if the sick person becomes seriously ill again after recovery or if the danger becomes more serious during the same illness.
The basis for receiving the sacrament of anointing is the state of sanctifying grace (confession and Holy Communion).
The anointing of the sick must not be given to those who stubbornly persist in manifest grave sin, to those who are not practicing or who are not believers.

Namaszczenie chorych nie jest sakramentem przeznaczonym tylko dla tych, którzy znajdują się w ostatecznym niebezpieczeństwie utraty życia. Odpowiednia pora na przyjęcie tego sakramentu jest już wówczas, gdy wierny znajdzie się w niebezpieczeństwie na skutek choroby lub starości. Sakrament ten może zostać ponownie udzielony, jeśli chory po wyzdrowieniu znowu ciężko zachoruje lub jeśli w czasie trwania tej samej choroby niebezpieczeństwo stanie się poważniejsze.
Podstawą do przyjęcia sakramentu namaszczenia jest stan łaski uświęcającej (spowiedź i komunia św.).
Nie wolno udzielać namaszczenia chorych tym, którzy uparcie trwają w jawnym grzechu ciężkim, osobom niepraktykującym, nie wierzącym.
